The Statement Shoe Card Design Process

My shoe design process definitely carries over to creating the concept and content for the paper goods collection.

In addition to the artwork, I’m also thinking about cheeky content that is in line with my sense of humor.

In 2010, I designed a card with ornaments on it. I took a look at it and thought I have changed as a designer and really wanted to create ornaments that were more modern. I looked at ornaments online that inspired me and began to sketch different ideas. The majority of the ornament ideas came from CB2.

Just like my shoe design process, I love to explore a few ideas. If you’ve worked with me, you’ll know that I love to sketch and work thru different ideas. For me, it’s not just about the heel, but also finding some fun, and playful with the upper.

While drawing this collection, I felt that these drawings felt a little more like shoes I’d love to wear rather than an ornament. So that is how I came about putting together a statement shoe card with these particular drawings. I do clean up my artwork in photoshop once I scan everything. The medium I used for this collection is all marker and pencil.

You can see the final card here and here.

Stay tuned for the next process for the Spiked Heel card which you can see here.
