Vintage details that inspire

As a shoe designer, I’m obviously always looking at shoes. Whether it’s people on the street, online shopping, instagram shoe stalking, shopping at stores, flea markets or on Etsy, shoe voyeurism is top of mind.

The Shoe Archives is an online store that always steers me to infinite inspiration. It’s a well curated online shop with shoes only. I love the photography, the sourcing is great, and the quality appears to be superb. Here are a few vintage shoes that have some thought provoking details.

the outsole

The last and outsole are my favorite part of this shoe design. Such a low profile but has a modern feel that would look great with sporty uppers or casual leather uppers such as a loafer. So many ideas to pull from this outsole.

lining details

The upper and sock lining in leather with repeat logo is such a wonderful detail. It looks elevated, and graphic.

this vamp!!!

So much going on in such a pretty little sandal by Pancaldi. Never seen a little peep toe that I love as much as this one.

pretty little sandal

I’m always weary of a d’orsay and sling back straps like these, but I feel this may stay on the foot well due to the front straps having a decent amount of coverage. Wish this sandal came in my size!

Sock lootie?

This season I’m all about a sock boot. This combination of loafer and tall boot is interesting and the materials are exquisite. A great little vintage bootie to wear in a modern way!

Here are a few other shoes I love from Shoe Archives. You can check out this cute little Stuart Weitzman sandal, and this micro wedge makes me so happy! The colors and beading is so fun!
